Leadership on demand.

Ask the CTO

Technical leadership for hire — advisory, due diligence, fractional, interim or full-time. Deeply hands-on technology leadership, exactly when and how you need it.

CTO for hire

The right CTO, at the depth you actually need.

Not every company needs a full-time CTO, and very few can find a good one quickly. We provide experienced technology leaders on terms that fit — from a few days a month through to a full-time contract — available in the UK and Australia, working fully remote, hybrid or on site with your team.

Ways to engage us

  • 01

    Advisory

A senior sounding board for your founders and executive team. Regular sessions on architecture, roadmap, hiring and technical risk — without taking day-to-day ownership away from the people who have it.

Best when you have a team, and need senior judgement to check it against.

  • 02

    Due Diligence

Technical due diligence for investors, acquirers and boards. We assess architecture, code quality, security, delivery capability and key-person risk, then report it in language a non-technical board can act on.

Best when money is about to move and you need to know what you are buying.

  • 03

    Fractional CTO

An embedded CTO for one to three days a week, ongoing. Owns technical direction, the roadmap and the growth of the team — at a fraction of the cost of a permanent executive hire.

Best when you need CTO-calibre decisions, not a full-time salary.

  • 04

    Interim CTO

Full-time leadership for a defined period — covering a departure, a funding round, a replatform, or a delivery window where the technical stakes are too high to leave the seat empty.

Best when the seat is empty and momentum cannot stop while you search.

  • 05

    Full-Time Contract CTO

A CTO on a long-term contract, fully committed to your business, without the overhead and permanence of an executive hire. The same commitment, on terms that can flex as the company changes.

Best when you need sustained leadership and want to keep flexibility.

Why fractional or interim makes sense

Hiring a permanent CTO is one of the most expensive and consequential decisions a company makes — and it is usually made under time pressure, before the role is properly understood. Fractional and interim engagements take that pressure off.

  • Seniority without the fixed cost

A permanent CTO is a large, long-term commitment on salary, equity and package. Fractional gives you the same calibre of judgement, for the days you actually need it.

  • Available in days, not months

Executive search for a CTO routinely runs three to six months, and that is before a notice period. We can start far sooner than that.

  • Most companies need decisions, not headcount

Early on, what is needed is a handful of the right architecture, platform and hiring calls. Those do not take five days a week — they take the right person.

  • It de-risks the permanent hire

A fractional or interim CTO can define the role properly, build the team around it, then help you hire — and hand over to — the right permanent successor.

  • An outside perspective

Someone with no history inside the organisation will say the thing everyone is thinking and nobody is saying. That is often the most valuable part.

  • Continuity through a gap

When a CTO leaves, decisions stall, delivery slows and good engineers start looking. Interim leadership holds the line while you search properly.

We lead from the front

Our CTOs are hands-on. They lead by example at every level — in the technology itself, in how software gets built, and at the executive table. Not a layer of management above the work, but someone visibly in it.

  • In the technology

Hands-on with architecture, code review and the hard technical calls. Close enough to the work to earn the team's trust — and to know when an estimate is optimistic.

  • In the delivery

Shaping how software actually ships: planning, quality, release cadence and the feedback loops that keep a team fast without quietly accruing debt.

  • In the boardroom

Presenting at board level in the commercial framing non-technical directors need — risk, cost, trade-offs, and what the investment is actually buying.

Building a high-performance product culture

The lasting value of a good CTO is not the decisions they make while they are with you — it is the technical product development culture they leave behind. Clear ownership, high standards held without ceremony, fast feedback, and engineers who understand the customer problem rather than only the ticket.

Deep AI experience

Genuinely fluent in all things AI

Our CTOs work with AI in production, not in slideware — choosing where it genuinely adds value, and doing the model, data, evaluation and governance work that decides whether it holds up in front of real users. Just as importantly, they will tell you plainly when AI is not the answer to the problem you have.
